Zen Judaism
Teaching Tales by a Kabbalistic Rabbi
Rabbi Joseph H. Gelberman
with Lesley Sussman
Illustrations by Catherine Rose Crowther
Softbound
$14.95 |

Wonderful, wonderful stories! In the tradition
of Rebbe Nachman, Rabbi Gelberman has created stories that
go from the heart to God's ear and back again. "It is
the story more than any other source of Jewish literature
that best communicates the religious and ethical messages
of Judaism."
Gelberman translateds age-old precepts into profound
insights that, when applied to one's daily life,
can truly facilitate real health and healing.

A sample story (most are longer):
A man who hid out in a basement during
the Holocaust scratched a Star of David on the
wall with the following words: "I believe
in the sun, even when it does not shine. I believe
in love even when He does not speak.

Treasures of the Talmud
An Inspirational Introduction
Compiled by S. Levy
Softbound
$12.50

What a wonderful journey through the writings than can be
said to have created what we now know as Rabbinic Judaism!
The selections cover just about every topic and range from
proverbs and maxims to parables, allegories and simple descriptions
of "what to do." Here, in a lovely nutshell, is
a sampling that brings to life the heart of the Talmud - and
makes it easy for both Jews and non-Jews to comprehend the
why the Talmud is such a treasure for the entire world.
I can attest without a doubt that you don't have to be Jewish
to love this book!

Teachings of the Jewish Mystics
Edited by Perle Besserman
$12.00
|
 |
|
|
Because I have very little background in the mystical traditions
of Judaism, I really did not know what to expect from this
little book. I just knew that I wanted to read it. What awaited
me between its covers was the discovery of a world sparkling
with joy, where human beings dance hand-in-hand with the Creator
and all Creation. This is a world where the Holy Unity of
all Creation is celebrated with enthusiastic commitment, it
is a world where guidance is considered wisdom only if it
simultaneously reaches the heights of heaven as it touches
the depths of the earth. It is a world where human beings
walk with angels and with each other on an Earth that is God's
gift. It is indeed our world. How beautiful!

Kabbalah
The Way of the Jewish Mystic
Perle Epstein
Foreword by Edward Hoffman
$14.95
|
 |
|
|
This is a very thorough, extremely engaging introduction to
the path of Kabbalah. In Kabbalah, Perle Epstein offers
a lively and accessible introduction to this intriguing world
- its methods, schools, and practitioners. She traces the
history of Kabbalah through the lives of its illustrious scholars
and saints, and unravels the web of ancient traditions hidden
in texts such as the Sefer Yetzirah and the Zohar.
The words of outstanding Kabbalists ring through these pages
- including Simeon bar Yohai, Isaac Luria, Abraham Abulafia,
and the Baal Shem Tov - giving instructions on practices ranging
from contemplation of the Bible's secret teachings to ritual,
ecstatic prayer, and intensive meditation. Throughout, the
author conveys and authentic Jewish spirit as she reveals
the way of enlightenment according to Kabbalah. Perle Epstein
is a descendent of the Baal Shem Tov and has published several
books and articles on mysticism and other topics.
This is a work which explains the Kabbalah with as much
clarity as it can be explained and with a genuine felling
for mystic lore. I recommend it to all readers.
- Isaac Bashevis Singer

Stories of Rebbe Nachman
Hasidism's Legendary Storyteller
Told by Rabbi David Zeller
2 audio cassettes
3 hours of great stories

The time I spent listening to these stories is time I think
I'll always treasure. I often listen to tapes or CDs as I
drive from errand to errand and while I have been fortunate
in that thus far all my listening material has been outstanding,
this particular collection of stories stands out in my mind
and heart. There is such warmth, such truth, and such generosity
in them.
Rebbe Nachman of Breslav was the great-grandson of the Baal
Shem Tov (the founder of Hasidism) - these stories are the
jewels in crown of his life's work, inspired teaching fables
that vividly communicate how to live with the presence of
God in daily life. All of these tales are heart opening, love-filled
and deeply wise in the ways of God and human beings. Told
with enthusiasm and love, most of these stories are just right
for pre-adolescents to adults. A few of these gems would be
very fine for young children, for instance, "The Lost
Princess."
